The book of an American hero

This incredible book by John Loftus is almost impossible to summarize. It takes us behind the scenes of WWII, where powerful influences were at play to bring the world into a new frame of mind. Previously released under the title The Belarus Secret, this new edition comes as the coronation for the author of a life of dedication, service, heroism and bravery in the name of protection of the United States and of democratic life. America’s Nazi Secret takes us on a journey backstage of the official version of history where corporations, oil, big finance and heavy industry were controlling a piece of the action much larger than the one controlled by the governments. As an attorney for the U.S. Justice Department, John Loftus was put in charge of the Belarus File in 1979.  His secret assignment was « to find out who was responsible for sabotaging the postwar investigations of Nazi bankers at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg » (p.20).

After two years of research, he submitted a manuscript for the original version of the book to the CIA for approval. A few modifications were necessary for the censors of the CIA but they otherwise liked the book and authorized the publication. The whole book evolves around the notion, important for the historical understanding of WWII, that the U.S. and other western countries hired ex-nazis as Cold War spies to be used against Soviet Russia. An organism within the State Department, the Office of Policy Coordination, was responsible mainly for the hiring of these individuals in the U.S. One of the most important group of nationals who furnished Cold War spies for the West was the Belarus, sometimes called Byelorussia, White Russia or White Ruthenia. Loftus had access to thousands of files due to his assignment by OSI Director Walter Rockler. He passed considerable time searching through file after file and found several names that could be linked to the Belarus « secret ». In fact, besides obvious collaborations of German citizens with the Third Reich during the war, there were a lot of Polish, Belarus and Ukrainian nationals who collaborated with the Reich and so could be used as western spies after the war in Russia or Eastern Block countries.

To start with, it is important to jump back in time to be able to have a deep understanding of what happened during but mostly before WWII. At the end of the 1800s, the wealthiest American families pooled their money to form agressive cartels to fix prices in different sectors. These people were nicknamed « The Robber Barons of Wall Street » for their practices. Such families were the Harrimans, the Kennedys, the Rockefellers, the Duponts, the Bushes, the Walkers, the Dulleses, etc. At the beginning of the 19th century, Roosevelt persuaded Congress to pass antitrust laws, such as the Sherman Antitrust Act and the Clayton Antitrust Act that limited greatly the capacity for companies to establish such monopolies. However, in 1918, the Robber Barons pressured Congress to adopt the Webb-Pomerene Act that confirmed the ban on cartels inside the U.S. but nevertheless authorized it overseas. Capital fled the U.S. to go overseas in huge proportions, which led to the 1929 crash and Depression. U.S. big finance, industries and corporations invested their money in three mafias: the Bolsheviks, the Nazis and the Wahhabists of Arabia, who came to be known later as the Muslim Brotherhood. The bottom line, as you already see it, is that the vast majority of all the problems that humans faced since the early 1900s is due namely to the cupidity of those Wall Street investors blinded by greed. To this day, the U.S. is the only major power not to have declared the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group. And for reason. The Muslim Brotherhood helps the transnational corporations extend their grip on the world. They fight against groups or communities that could be tempted or attracted toward socialism in Muslim and/or Arab countries. And so it helps the foreign policy and geo-political interests of the United States throughout the world.

Also, two of the most favorite tricks used by the intelligence agencies and governments to cover their tracks when they compromise themselves in dubious deeds, are compartmentalization and fragmentation. These tricks were utilized ad nauseam since the early 20th century in the U.S. to keep everyone in the dark in the intelligence community about what was going in terms of foreign investments and capital flight. This way, gigantic sums of money could be invested overseas in countries hostile or even enemies of the United States without anyone being aware of it. Unfortunately, only a few of these gambits were discovered and prosecuted using the Trading with The Enemy Act, among other laws.

All along this marvelous book, John Loftus presents the case of various nazis, sometimes trained in the U.S. and utilized behind the Iron Curtain as anti-soviet agents, and some other times granted American citizenship or sent in other countries, in the spirit of fighting communism. Stepan Bandera, leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists; Reinhard Gehlen, Third Reich Intelligence Chief for the Eastern front; Mykola Lebed of the SB, the Ukrainian Gestapo; Ostrowski, President of the Byelorussian Central Council; Stankievich, a Belarus collaborator; these are a few of the nazi collaborators and/or main players that come to work for western intelligence after the war. One thing needs to be said though concerning those agents employed by western intelligence agencies. A lot were in fact compromised. For example, a lot of so-called counter-communist agents behind the Iron Curtain were in fact Soviet double agents. Somewhere in the book, Loftus mentions a casualty rate of above 90%. Of course, the fact that British Intelligence agent Kim Philby was in fact a Soviet double agent is directly linked with that casualty rate. Having the list of all agents behind the Iron Curtain, all he had to do was to transmit the list to Moscow, which he did. But that is not all. The bad news, is that a lot of those double agents were in fact triple agents that had remained faithful to the Third Reich. Thus, they were in a position to sabotage the gathering of information and intelligence on both sides of the Iron Curtain, and to furnish the Underground Reich, led by Martin Bormann from his stronghold in Argentina, with the real and useful information along with strategies, plots and ideas to sabotage it even more and favor the expansion of the Underground Reich. This fact certainly explains the terrible condition in which we find our world today.

There are so many things that could be said about this book, so many connections that could be pointed out. The best, and I encourage you to do so, is that you read it. It is a remarkable achievement in terms of history, intelligence and political analysis. It is the book of a true American hero and you have got to read it…for your own sake and the sake of your children.
